2009-2010 Boy Scout Programs

Cub Scouts are invited to explore space science while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Boys participate in activities that will help them earn their Astronomy Belt Loop and Academics Pin. Activities include:

  • Learn how a telescope works
  • Identify constellations, planets and the North Star
  • Talk to an Astronomer
  • View a planetarium show
  • Learn to read a star map
  • Recieve a certificate of completion

Webelos Camp-In
Geologist
5:00pm – 9:00am

Explore Longway Planetarium after hours and participate in hands-on activities that will help Webelos Scouts fulfill requirements towards their Geologist Badge in the Outdoor Activity Group. Boys will discover what our Earth is made of while examining different rocks and minerals and how they are used in our everyday lives. Campers will also investigate mountains and volcanoes, mix cement, make a fossil model and take a collection of specimens home.

Brownie Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Girls will complete the Space Explorer Try-It by participating in the following activities:

  • See a program in the planetarium
  • Learn how to be a Star Maker
  • Get Ready, Set, Jet
  • Recieve a certificate of completion

Junior Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Girls will complete the Sky Search Badge by participating in the following activities:

  • Learn how to use a star map and make a star finder
  • Learn which of the nine planets are visible to the naked eye
  • Find out why being able to locate the North Star is important
  • Learn stories from two or more modern or ancient cultures
  • See a program in the planetarium
  • Receive a certificate of completion

Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Camp In
Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending the Camp-In at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus.

Girls will participate in activities that fulfill requirements for the Space Exploration interest project including constructing a flying object, watching a planetarium show, building a telescope, exploring space science careers, watching a classic sci-fi movie and more!
